MECHANISMS FOR STRENGTHENING INDIGENOUS PEOPLES IN PREPARATION FOR THE REDD+ PROCESS IN GUATEMALA

A capacity building process was generated for Indigenous Peoples of Guatemala in the framework of the REDD+ strategy as a mechanism to mitigate climate change, in order to facilitate their participation in decision-making spaces.
ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT:
- Capacity building processes for Indigenous Peoples on the REDD+ strategy
- Participation in dialogue and advocacy spaces at the national, regional and international levels
- Support to Indigenous Peoples for the management and conservation of their territories and forest remnants
- Transfer of techniques to indigenous communities to learn about data-collection methods and field samples for carbon measurement
- Systematization of biocultural monitoring in forests in indigenous territories
- Exchange of successful experiences among Central American countries in reducing deforestation and forest degradation
