A GRAIN OF MAIZ IN THE CONSERVATION OF NATURAL AREAS IN THE KAQCHIKEL VOLCANIC CHAIN

Through an integrated management approach of sustainable watershed and resilient landscapes in the face of socioeconomic threats and climate change, we strengthened the strategy of use, management and conservation of natural areas in the Kaqchikel Volcanic Chain (CVK).

ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT:

  • Technical and organizational advice to the Chajinel (guardians) and municipal corporations
  • Elaboration and coordinated implementation of master plans in community areas and municipal astilleros (mountain hills)
  • Basic community characterization of water bodies and forests in astilleros (mountain hills)
  • Exchange of experiences among the Chajinel men and women in the CVK on natural resource management with cultural relevance
  • Development of a map of social, cultural, economic and political actors in the KLC
  • Production of a video and radio spots in Kaqchikel and Spanish on the hydrological potential of the CVK
  • Formulation of an Incentive Program for the KLC
